responsibility

oh ames i was gonna post this with your comment but decided to just post it on the blog itself. ahhh responsibility. what does it really mean? from what i've seen in america, although i've only been here a brief 30 years, if a child fails or becomes delinquent everyone says "the system failed him". what about the parents? since when is it the schools/systems responsibility to teach these children how to be? since when aren't adults held accountable for the actions of said minor, which under the laws of our government should be so. i don't expect the government to teach my children anything, in fact i'll be damned. i believe the public school system is a good thing as it teaches children to tolerate others and accept them. it teaches them social responsibility. now i don't mean "social" as in how they can serve their government, don't get me wrong i know very well that is what they intend, but i mean "social" in the very primal of it's definition. the most valuable social responsibility our pbulic school systems teach is the value of others, human life, and how to treat this most precious of gift that is regularly taken advantage of by ignorant adults and their children. unfortunatly, contrary to the current popular belief parents are responsible for their children. and even more unfortunate the parents leave this up to the teachers and politicians, who happen to dictate what goes on in the schools. i often ask myself why these kids are left to the political wheelings and dealings of the public schools rather than instilling values and making sure the kids are taught properly, where are these kids getting their "street smarts" now? as ames and i blatantly saw in our high school half the kids were too rich or left as latch-key for their parents to care what was going on in their education let alone the values they should learn from home. luckily for us our schools had the funding for the teachers, counselors, and principals to actually care and put time into us. just that sheer knowledge or them caring was enough for our student body to practice decency, loving values, and common sense relative to the real world. imagine if the parents that couldn't be as involved with their kids actually had the time to put into them, if they would have liked to or not. i'm not saying you have to be a major pta player or anything but come on, teach your kids how to be a human being and what it means. the blame for kids failing is set upon the teachers/system even though we know they are still grossly over-worked and under-paid. i can go on about where else people should take responsibility but then this would be a really long post. i feel like if people continue to pass their responsibility off on the system/government and expect the system to fix the problem we will be commies. it won't be far off if we can't be held accountable for our own actions and choices. the government allows this behavior and supports it as the more power they have the better, right? when will it end? will it be too late before people realize what is going on? will the proper education and the bright futures of our children be lost? tell our children the truth. teach them well. take responsibility for your actions, votes, failures, mistakes, accomplishments. don't let this country, no matter how patriotic you are, take it from you. be careful what you relinquish. i was probably all over the place with this, sorry! ;) hope you got my jist though. =^..^=
